Hello all! I was not sure which category I was supposed to put this question in so forgive me if I put it under the wrong one. I live in an earthquake prone area and I have a fairly big computer. I keep my computer on top of my desk close to its edge. There is very little space in my room so I can't put my computer anywhere else and I have carpet that gets dusty so I can't put it on the floor. I am afraid that in the event of an earthquake my computer will fall over onto the floor. Is there any sort of strap or harness I can buy to secure my computer to my desk. Any help would be great. Thanks for reading!

Hello Skykingpk,
Its hard to tell just what exactly you would have to work with from your description, but I have some advice that may help.
Probably the easiest and least work intensive ways to secure your system would be with the use of straps or even bungie cords.
But for this to work, you will need proper anchor points. If you have a wood desk, you can buy what are called "Screw thread eye bolts". Just go to home depot or a similar store and ask for help. Get a decent size that is compatible with the material your desk is made out of. Different thread types for different materials. Then while you are at the store, grab some bungie cords if they have some long enough to up and over your case, or buy a cargo strap, 1" will do...

Go to marshals or home goods (maybe even walmart) and buy a luggage strap, they are meant for holding a piece of luggage closed, but can ready handle 100+ lbs so it should hold the computer just fine.

I'm not sure if there would be any specifically for computers, but you should be able to find something at your local hardware store. Some rope would probably work too, unless your case is too flimsy to handle the pressure. You might even be able to mod the case so you can bolt it to the table with some right-angle metal pieces. I presume you've already done something to prevent the table itself from falling over during an earthquake.

Screw the bolts into your desk, and then secure the strap to them. This should keep your system safe from all but the "big one".

get some hooks and bungee rope, suspend your pc in mid air as hard fixing it to anything will have your hdd destroyed , or to stop it from being knocked off and to cusion it i think a polystyrene board for the bottom to help with any immediate shocks and drill a bolt with a large washer through the bottom of your case through the polystyrene and bolt it down to your desk
