Looking for hardware to move HDD to DVD/CD slot.

I have a Asus L551LB and would like to move my HDD to the CD/DVD slot and get a USB case for the CD/DVD and then put an SSD drive in place of the HDD.

Anyone know where I can find these parts. The biggest issue is the rack to hole the HDD in the CD/DVD slot. Can't find anything on Asus website.

Thanks.

Welcome to Tom's!
The CD/DVD slots are standard 5.25 inch mounting bays. most new HDD's and SSD's come with the necessary mounting hardware to use these slots. Look for 3.5 to 5.25 adapters (2.5 to 5.25 for SSD's).

My problem is that I would like to put the SSD where my current 1 TB HDD is located and then put my 1 TB HDD where my DVD/CD is located and then find a case for the DVD/CD that will utilized my USB to connect it when needed. So it's not a case of just replacing the DVD/CD with an SSD drive. I want my operating system to run on the SSD and all other apps running on the 1TB so I get the most out of the speed of the SSD. Most applications install on the C Drive for the executable so I would have all that on the SSD but the actual larger part of the application and all data on the HDD.

Make sense?

So, as I understand it, you currently have your OS & apps on the 1TB drive, and you want to install your OS only on the SSD, while leaving your apps on the larger drive? I am not aware of a way to do that that doesn't involve having to re-install all of your apps. You can remove the HDD, install the SSD, then run the Windows install DVD to get your OS on the SSD(which will now be the C: drive). You then re-connect the HDD. This doesn't get your OS to automatically recognize your apps, they have to be re-installed. During the re-install process, you can select which drive to install to, so you aps executables do not have to be on the C: drive. Backing them up before you install the SSD won't work as when you try to restore, it will go on the C: drive, not your HDD.

Wish I had a better way. :(
