Hello all,
First time poster, long time lurker. I'm trying to fix my brother's Toshiba Satellite C665D. The initial problem was getting a black screen/BOOTMGR is missing error upon startup. I popped in the Windows 7 install disc that I've used many times before and a couple of things happened;
1st time: I got stuck on the setup is starting screen.
2nd: Changed SATA controller mode from AHCI to Compatibility (there was no IDE available). I got past the setup is starting screen rather quickly, got through the first step of installationg and at about 5% of the second step (can't remember what it was, maybe extracting) I got an error code that said (again cant remember the exact thing) the files could not be found.
3rd: I disabled internal pointing device, legacy usb, web camera and PCI LAN. Tried removing one of each of the RAM sticks to no avail. Still stuck at setup is starting screen.
Currently: Stuck at setup is starting screen again...
I've read that it could have to do with the voltage of the RAM, which you are supposed to be able to change in the BIOS. Is there a way I can update the BIOS with a USB even though I'm unable to boot windows?
Thanks,
Peter
