How to use laptop hard drive as a external usb drive

1. Take out the metal/plastic cover on the bottom side of the drive in your picture
2. something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817392032 will do the job, unless you have more than 750gb.
3. Take the top off by unscrewing it when you receive your enclosure, or your current one
4. connect your drive to the top you just take off by plugging in the sata port
5. put the drive into the enclosure, screw it to secure
6. done

It's messy, but you could try getting a USB-->SATA adapter. They only provide enough power for 2.5" drives usually, but confirm your power requirements.

Dependent on how the drive is shaped or the metal fixture is placed, these may not fit, so caveat emptor.

Edit: Noticed IDE. They have those adapters too, but no idea on them.

I would just ask for a return or exchange if still under warranty/return period. Most of these external enclosure aren't made with a lot of effort and cheap out on anything they can cuz business lol
I always look into reviews from regular customer and see if there's any problem first.

Alright, but I say to not sweat over it if you really can't and see if you can get another one, cuz if you actually end up breaking it. It would decrease your chance of exchange or return.

WAIT WAIT WAIT, Are you actually taking the label off of the HDD like what Erman Yudhistira just asked? If so, please don't, that's not what I meant from my first post.

Took what you said not to take off on one of my hard drives which I'm guessing is bad, it's from my dads old laptop. My hard drive I want to gain access to I just took of the label. Will have to find a specific good screwdriver to give it a go...

You may want to check the pictures he posted...
I'm not sure about you, but I'm quite certain that HDD is not SATA.

OH! I've seen those before. I feel stupid now.
