Process of installing Win 7 - 32-bit on Dell Inspiron 530 which was running Win XP. I was able to clean install Win 7 OK with all settings & files saved; but now unable to reinstall Win XP so that I can still run old programs (now incompatible with Win 7) & hardware with XP.

When inserting the original Dell Operating System XP Home Ed - SP2 disc, and select 'Install Windows XP' I get a warning that the program is blocked due to compatibility issues. Does anyone have a solution to reinstall XP?

Solution
Important please read to resolve problem.

Its down to the order you installed the two Os you have.
Windows by native intervention will not let you install a new os like windows 7
And later attempt to install windows xp.

It must be done in the order of windows xp first.

And then windows 7.

It will then create a multi boot extended menu for the os you wish to run.

Technically it sees it as downgrading.
Since the existing OS installed, Windows 7 super seeds XP.

And why Xp fails to install with a compatibility error message. Xp was made before windows 7.
Windows 7, as far as XP is concerned is not compatible it was never programmed to see it as a compatible Os. it does not have a clue what windows 7 is.

XP first os installed ...

Hello man

Honorable

Create a separate partition in disk management, located in windows 7. Then attempt the install onto that partition.
