Properly cleaning a hard drive in prep for a new MoBo/System?

I was wondering if there is a "Right" was to wipe hard drives to prepare for a new system/motherboard change.

depends which operating system you are going to use and whether you are switching between them, but most operating systems (which you will have to install first) include the ability to prepare the install drive for its own use (formatting). The main thing to do is to back up your important data BEFORE you begin to migrate systems.

If you're going to still be using it, then just (during the new OS install) delete all partitions and let Windows format and create what it needs.

If you were selling it, DBAN first.

put it in and delete the partition during install and make a new one. done
