So at first I wanted to buy the iBuyPower steam machine but my friend told me i could build a better one for almost the same price. I need help on what parts to use on it and I want it to fit into an awesome small case. My budget is $500 but if I need a little more cash for a bit better thats fine. Thanks like always guys.

Solution
First of all it's over your budget and sits at $600.
Second, there is not much upgrade potential to this CPU/MB.
Third, this build will demolish any single console on the market, like literally.

Memory: Kingston Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($64.99 @ Newegg)

Better than console, but worse than $500 normal non-HTPC build.

With no GPU? Without a GPU it won't beat consoles. Also, you're in a budget build and sticking in SSDs?

HTPC build especially this case doesn't allow a lot of options, including pricing options.
APU does equivalent if not exceed the performance of a console, they are capable of playing at 1080p on settings ranging from low to medium to high depending on the APU.

Im also wondering what makes this better than the ibuypower steam machine for $500 and this build for $600? They both run 60fps and 1080p.

According to http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/06/ibuypower-sbx/ (A beta model, but most likely the real spec cuz of its price)
You're getting lower powered CPU, less RAM, and lower powered GPU. Instead, you get it pre-built in a nice case, some smartphone app features, I believe.
The system that I've suggested will be able to play in settings higher than the SBX, and you also get a nice case.

Yep. Im going to do the build you showed me. Also is there any way to fit a blu ray disk drive into the case?

Edit: I was also checking out the cyberpower steam machine and I think this is better too.
