Upgrading to a new MB.

So I'm currently running a MSI P67-G43 with a i5 2500k, currently stock clock. Those are the oldest parts of my computer currently.

I'd like to upgrade the MB as it's a bit outdated and wasn't great when it was new (worked great, just not a lot going for it). I'm torn between getting another 1155 or doing a full upgrade. Will the 2500k last me for another few years (OCing to keep up) or if I picked up a Z77 now would I just be having to upgrade again in a short time?

I mainly play games (BF4, SC2, Titanfall soon). Everything else on the PC is doing fine (GTX760, Samsung SSD, blah blah)

Keep in mind that if you have an OEM licensed version of Windows 7, it will have to be re-activated when it sees the new MB. Sometimes you get away with it pretty easy, sometimes you have to jump thru a few hoops.

The SB i5 is still a powerful gaming processor. It is in the top tier along with all the rest of the IB and HW Intels:

You won't gain anything by switching to an IB or HW processor when it comes to gaming.

If you do decide to upgrade your CPU, go for the Haswell line. There's no sense getting another end-of-life socket like the 1155. At least Intel hasn't discontinued the 1150... yet.

I've ran mine at 4.2 before. I just don't have it OCed because there's really no reason to atm. Running a hyper 212 on it but it's still nice to have it sitting at 35ish all the time. It can get pretty hot here in the summer and I wasn't a fan of my fans spooling up to max. I'm running in a older Apevia mid tower and things are kinda tight inside, plus the cable management is... well.. isn't. So if I'm going to rebuild with a new MB then I'll be buying a new case as well.

Yeah, a bigger, cleaner case with room for cable management will be an improvement. My Corsair C70 with 2 x GTX 660s in it is cool and quiet. Fans stay on low even gaming. Sometimes the CPU or cards' fans will ramp up for a few seconds. but that's about all. When you plan on the MB, maybe save up for a new case too. Good luck.
