so i installed 2 more sticks of ram (8gb kit 2x4b), in system it says that i have the 16gb's but it says that only 7.90gb is usable, any ideas why it wont pick up ont he toher two sticks? they are the same exact brand and model number

thanks.

Try reseating them in different configurations. Make sure that they are matched according to the color separation on the motherboard, so the first 2 sticks you bought into blue or something and the second 2 sticks into the other color. From there, just switch the same set around or switch sets into different color.

Might check MSCONFIG>BOOT>ADVANCED and make sure Max Memory is unchecked. Also try sticks in slots 1-2 (from CPU) and see if 4 or 8GB shows up available, if only 4 then may be an unbalanced CPU, bad DRAM channel or possibly bad MC (memory controller), What CPU/mobo are you running? Also possible the sticks just don't want to play together what are the model #s of the sets of DRAM?
