Hello!

A few days ago I bought the motherboard for my first self-assembled desktop PC at a tiny store. It was the last they had but exactly the one I wanted (ASRock H87 Pro4).
When I wanted to assemble it yesterday I realized that - not only - there was no seal on the cardboard packaging, no anti-static bag around the motherboard and no plastic cover in the socket.

Also, when I took a closer look at all the ports and connectors on the motherboard, I saw that one of the locking mechanisms of the fan headers is broken (CPU fan 1, 4pin).

It looks like I'm not the first one to buy this motherboard - no seal, no anti-static bag, no socket cover - and the fan header locking mechanism is broken.

So my question is:
Is it a big deal that the locking mechanism is broken? Should I be fine (cable wont become loose)? Or should I get it replaced?

The store hasn't listed this modell anymore and I don't know if they can order another one or if they send it in for repair (which would take up to 2 weeks).

Any suggestion is highly appreciated!

Do you mean the CPU heatsink lock? Because if you do, I would consider it a big deal. If the heatsink is not properly placed (and by properly I mean WELL TIGHT) you might have heating issues on your CPU, and you don't want that.

ASRock is a well reputed brand.. Contact them: http://www.asrock.com/support/tsd.asp

Good luck!

take it back and get something different. it was most likely returned because it was problematic or they broke the fan header. dont settle for that crap, especially from a store. if it was me, i would yell around until i got the next model up that they have in stock. they shouldnt have even returned it from the previous customer with the physical damage, nervermind try to re-sell it

Well First is 1) Did you pay full retail price for it? If you did I'd take it back and either 1) Demand a new one since i bought a returned item or 2) As for a partital refund for a returned item. 2) If you keep it that shouldn't really matter a whole lot since when you put the fan connector on those pins inside the fan connector put pressure on the Header pins so they won't just come lose. You gotta give it a light tug.

Also make sure it works and stay away from those "Tiny Stores" lol better off getting it from Newegg/Amazon or a big store like Fry's or Micro Center.

It's not the heat sink but the locking mechanism on the header for the CPU fan cable.

it wasn't advertised as second hand item and the price was definitely not reduced (68€).

looks like I'm taking it back to the store tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
