Hello all,

I've been trying for about 2 weeks to get my new HTPC up and running. I even canceled my TiVo account because I was fully expecting the build to work from the get go. So I've been without TV for about 2 weeks now :( Anyways, Fans spin, lights light up, drives rev up, but i cant get any display to show on my monitor. (I have tried 2 separate known working VGA monitors and tried connecting with HDMI to my TV.) I've printed and gone through the no post no beeps no display thread on this site multiple multiple times. I don't know what else to do.

I originally purchased a MSi B75MA-E33 mobo and thought that was the problem, so I sent that back and got a refurbished MSI H61M-P31/W8. The new mobo fixed nothing.

I also thought it was possibly the PSU, I borrowed a friends PSU and hooked it up and am STILL having the same problem....

Also, please note I do not have a speaker to try to hear beeps. I ordered one off eBay and should arrive soon.

Here is what I have so far:

Mobo: MSI H61M-P31/W8
RAM: 2x Kingston ValueRAM 4 GB DIMM 1066 MHz DDR3 1.5v
HD: Western Digital Caviar Green - WD30EZRX 3TB 3.5" SATA Hard Drive
Processor: Intel Core i3-2120 3.3 GHz Dual-Core Processor
PSU: FSP Group 300W TFX 12V Computer Power Supply, 80 PLUS Certified, FSP300-60GHT
Graphics: ATI HD 4350 512M PCI-E 64Bit DDR2 VGA/ DVI/ HDMI Graphics Card
Drive: LG 12X SATA Blu-ray Combo Internal Drive 3D and M-DISC UH12NS30
CPU Cooler: GELID Solutions CC-Siberian-01 80mm Hydro Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler

Quick secondary question, my friends have told me that the i3 I have doesn't have integrated graphics, but intels website says the one I have does. So I'm constantly switching between the graphics card and the mobo just to be safe.. So does this processor have integrated graphics or not?

Thank you, and eagerly awaiting any replys!

Solution
Could check it, might be on too tight or be tightened down unevenly, that can cause problems like you are having, might have too much or not enough thermal compound on it
Have you tried taking your video card out and just using the onboard video? That 2120 does have onboard graphics, but it's usually disabled automatically by the motherboard when it detects a video card. If that works, then it sounds as though your video card isn't working as it should.

Might want to bench it, have a guide that might help here:

http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1753671/bench-troubleshooting.html

else remove GPU and try with on-board - mobo has both DVI and VGA if I remember right, but if no joy with that, bench it, might be shorting on the case or something (missing stand off, lose mobo lock down screw, something like that), also try your GPU in another rig, might be a bad mobo, could be alots of things

thanks tradesman and rhysiam,

I have tried removing the GPU and using on-board and that did nothing.

I have also tried bread boarding it, which also did nothing....

I emailed the people who refurbished the mobo and they said that it works fine that they fully tested it, they even sent me a picture of it in the bios.

I also forgot to add in the build, my cpu cooler. I have read on other sites that some mobos wont boot unless it detects the cpu cooler.. is it possible my cpu cooler isnt being detected?

EDIT:

that is what they sent me to prove that the mobo was working.

edit 2:
just sent a message to the person i bought the CPU off of to see if he possibly had a test printout to prove it works.

that is who i bought the CPU off of, he seems reputable.

Well tradesman, I figured it out haha.

I took the CPU fan off and tried to boot it up, didnt work. but since i had the fan off, i decided to recheck if the cpu was seated correctly. for like the 5th time. When i took it off, i noticed a pin on the socket was bent, this mobo was refurbished because of bent pens. looks like they missed one. anyways, i guess im getting yet another new motherboard. Can anyone here recommend one? I only have a few requirements.

2-3 DDR3 1066-1600mhz slots (preferably 3)
micro ATX
lga1155
hdmi out
USB 3.0
3x sata

no more MSI, ive now gone through 2 msi boards and am done. I would really like ASUS, but idk if asus has micro atx boards. Oh yeah, would like to also stay under $100

Would think the pins would be right if that's what it was refurbished for ;) glad you caught that though, I'd look at the Asus P8H77-M LE, check at the Egg though, think Asus has about 18 (maybe still more micro ATX 1155 mobos and think all are under $100 except the Q77M something
