I recently got a VPN service (PrivateInternetAccess) and noticed that when I am downloading through a torrent program my speeds are considerably slower (almost about 500 kbps slower) but when I am downloading anything else the speeds are normal. I ran across these router firmware updates (pfSense etc..) what exactly do they do, and are they needed for faster speeds? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

pfSense is a fire wall add on. VPN (Virtual Private Network) allows you to connect to another private network through the internet. It encrypts the data sent between the 2 networks. Are you VPNing into your office computer before you Bit Torrent. If so you may be getting speed issues do to a Split Tunnel. Simply disconnect from the VPN before you bit torrent.

Thanks. Yes, I am connected to the VPN before I use bit torrent. I guess I'll just have to disconnect the VPN before using torrent software and then reinstate it after closing the torrent software. Thanks for the help!
