Should I wait for the 800 Series?

Hey, so I am having a hard time deciding whether I should buy a temporary graphics card like the GT 630 and wait for the 800 series or, buy a GTX 780 now. I don't know what to expect from these card like the performance or price so I really don't want to wait for nothing. I found the GT 630 for $40 which would be temporary until the 800 series comes out. If anyone knows when they're coming out or the expected price that would be very helpful. Also any suggestion are helpful as well.

So do you have system that is unusable at the moment because it has NO graphics adapter? Otherwise, I am unsure why you would get a GT630. I'm assuming it is just to let you use the desktop and not play games.

I am running a GTX680 and am waiting to see what the 800 series delivers since I was not upgrading to a 780 when it first came out at $650 instead of the typical $500 price point. They dropped the price to far into the game and I was not pleased. I think it depends on your situation. I can wait it out. If you are sitting on a system that can't play games, then it may be worth getting a 780 now. Chances are an 880 will be more efficient and maybe 10-20% performance increase. Who know what they will charge and I think it's more...

I think high end 800's will be around the end of the year. I'm expecting lower power consumption, but not massively improved performance. They'll be priced according to their performance ranking compared to other cards at that time, plus a bit extra for being Nvidia. If they wipe the floor with the 780, expect premium pricing.
Chances are, if you wait, by the end of the year, something else special/cheaper will be just around the corner. That's the problem.

Well, I think (and I'm not 100% sure) that the 800 series cards are going to be on Maxwell. This means that the performance is going to be really, really good. This also means that they are going to be expensive. Plus, the 800 series COULD come out in like a year. The things people say are just rumors. After all, it's not my decision on whether you should buy a 780 or wait. With the 780, on the other hand, you will be able to run ANYTHING on max settings no problem. With this stated I personally would buy the 780 now.

Nothing is "around the corner" after Maxwell. The next generation (20nm) GPU's will easily be state of the art for 2+ years.

Just like the Radeon 7970 was/is (late 2011 launch). And it's still going... rebadged as the 280X. Although it was the first 28nm chip out of TSCM... as they didn't "pump out" the NVidia line till a few months later. But the 680/770 is still fairly long lived as well.

Even the Titan is a year old now. But consider the K20X and it's actually much older.

Hardware has really matured and can last years now. But a generation jump is really almost here:)
Finally!!

Well I'm planning to play a few games at low resolution because I expected the 800s to come out in Q4. I feel like $650 for a 780 is a little too steep. Would you recommend getting a 750 or even a 650Ti?

If everyone is saying they're likely to come out Q4 I might as well buy a decent graphics card now and possibly sell it in the future. Any other suggestions are appreciated.
