Computer Acting Up

Hi there, people of the internet!

Well, I got a rather... Weird problem...

I'm going to start of with saying that I am completely worthless myself when it comes to computers, so I'll say this right now: Any questions of the kind "Do you have this or that" or "Have this thing been acting weirdly", please consider them answered as "I got no idea, what is that even?". Not meant in any hostile way, of course, I just really don't know this kind of stuff in the least, I enjoy playing games on my computer and that's about how far my interest have reached.

Now, my problem is as follows:
Yesterday, while I was just playing a game on Steam, my computer suddenly froze up and wouldn't react to anything. I sighed and turned it off manually, since this kind of freeze is something that isn't unknown to me, even if it's rare. Now, the problem started once my computer woke up again. Suddenly, everything works a Lot slower. With a lot, I mean that it went from instantly opening several things (browsers, folders, etc etc), to take at least 2 minutes or more to even show a single page of my browser (firefox). This could possibly be read as normal connection lag, I get that sometimes, and while it's annoying, I can deal with it. However, this does not just apply to things that I need my connection for, Everything "laggs" in this odd way, and it comes and goes in waves, accompanied by other strange things, like, while writing this, my browser stopped responding for a few minutes, and then went back as if nothing had happened. I've also noticed (by checking it with a game) that my ping is at my usual average (30-50), however my FPS is extremely low, at about 8-16, something that normally doesn't happen for me.

I've also had a lot of problems with, when using youtube for an example, messages about the pluggin not working displaying. Now, those I had before as well, but not nearly as frequently, rendering some pages utterly impossible to use.

Also, the computer have a lot of problems closing down programs, refusing to do so for a long time.

Now, I have tried to fix it somewhat, with the help of Mr.Google, and I might detect a Slight improvement, but not much. This is what I have tried so far:

First I thought it was the memory that was to full, so, I uninstalled a lot of stuff, trying to clear some space. Didn't do anything.

I've gotten the latest Driver Updates, didn't change anything, since they are set to automatically update in any case.

I have defragmented my harddrive, once again, no real difference to be seen.

I've also Checked the harddrive (taking several hours), and it didn't do anything either, really, from what I can see.

I've configurated what programs that start up as I turn on my computer, nothing mysterious there, didn't improve anything.

I've also cleaned the inside of the computer, removing all dust, since I've heard that it can cause problems...

So, this is my problem. What in the world is going on, why is my computer acting like this? Any help would be Most appreciated, and I'm sorry if my terminology might be bad when it comes to these things, so I might not make myself understood, but I felt I at least had to try to ask, since I am really at my wit's end and in desperate need of help.

Thanks in beforehand! Oh, and sorry if I posted this in the wrong part of the forum or something like that, if so, kindly redirect me to the right place. :)

Start with the basics. 1. Get a good antivirus. Free is fine; go for AVAST. Run a full system boot scan. Then go to tools and install and run the browser cleanup. Remove everything under three stars in the browser cleanup, you'll see what I mean when you run it. 2. Download CCleaner and run it. Also run the registry cleaner it offers. Stick to all the default settings.

This should clean up a BUNCH of garbage.

So, I've both done a deep scan (it fixed some minor, older things, but not the current problem), and the CCleaner, however, no improvement... Any more advices you can give, I'm willing to give it a few more tries, but am getting pretty frustrated and I am ready to just reboot the entire thing... Anyways, hoping for help, and thanks in beforehand!^^

Next; run MSCONFIG and disable all startup programs, restart and test again. I'd also reset your BIOS back to default. Make sure all your drivers are up to date, and there's no conflicting drivers.

Uninstall Flash and reinstall it, I've had problems with Flash after an update sometimes.

If things are still running slow, you may want to consider booting into a memtest USB key and running a dozen tests.
