I have an old emachine emonster 600 mini tower case that I am using to house a new motherboard I purchased (intel D845PT). Has anyone came across my dilemma of figuring out if the existing wiring (9 pin) coming from the power button will work on the new mobo? Will I need to replace the wiring altogether? Thanks!

WOW! :)

A trip down memory Lane!

I owned a E Monster 600 myself, and the answer is no!

You will need to remove the connection pins from the 9 pin connector and reinstall the connectors into dual jumper blocks if you don't have any dual jumper blocks you could snag some from your local computer repair shop off some old computers to be scraped.

You will need to remove the connection pins from the 9 pin connector and reinstall the connectors into dual jumper blocks if you don't have any dual jumper blocks you could snag some from your local computer repair shop off some old computers to be scraped.

You would need to track the wiring back to the power switch, the Power LED, and HDD LED, and Reset Button to identify where each set of 2 wires goes to, usually a common color wire is the negative connection.

The 9 pin connector should have actual 8 wires 2 for the power switch, 2 for the power LED, 2 for the HDD LED, and 2 for the Reset Switch, so you will have 4 wires of that set that are the same color, could be black, green, or white, but the 4 of the same color go to the negative terminals on the motherboard front panel connector block.

You could do it without the 2 pin jumper blocks but be sure none are touching each other or you could damage the new M/B.

If you need any more explanation PM me. Ryan

Hey Ryan,

I'm glad you had the same e600 case. Like you said, I would need more info on your advise. I'm new to this PC building and trying to take a crack at putting one together. Is there any pictures or website I can use for reference so I can visually see what you just explained? Thanks for your help.

There is a possibility the old connector could actually work if it is the match to the new motherboard and if the wires are positioned right, you would need to track the wires and compare the connection points are accurate, if they're not, but the block is the right match for the front panel connector, you could remove the wires from the connector block and rearrange their connection location.

If the 9 pin block will not plug in at all you could do as I originally suggested just be sure where each of the wires going is correct regarding their positive and negative connections.

The first thing you would need to determine is will the 9 pin connector actually plug into the new motherboards front panel connector, (with no power to the computer of course!), and if it will plug in to the front panel connector, track the wires back to their source, and compare their connection points to the motherboard manuals pin layout diagram, it details each positive and negative connection location.

The 9 pin connector is actually a 10 pin block with one space not available, they were used commonly sometimes with brand name machines, with E-machines being one to use them.

Take a look at Tip # 18 below.
