On a motherboard in the specs I have noticed when your looking at the compatible RAM I tend to see something like this.

"Memory Standard: DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600/1800*/2133* (OC)"

By this I know that I should be able to buy a 1600 set of sticks and put on it no problem. The 1800 and 2133 though have the Overclock beside them.. My question is, do I have to find some 1600 ram that can overclock to those numbers? or can I buy say some straight up 2133 ram and have it work just fine?

Sorry didnt post a build or anything. Was just looking at the *OC on the Mobo's.. Just about all have that option. I use gooeypc.com sometimes to get a general compatibility look at parts I put together. Soon I do, however, plan on building a AMD APU setup for my sister and mother. They just facebook/facebook games, watch videos online, check email etc. Figured graphics on the APU would be more then enough for anything they throw at it and it would be a upgrade from their 4 year old emachines from walmart they are running on now. Anyways when I choose a motherboard with the *oc and pick the ram for it gooeypc says it is not compatible which is why I was asking about it.
Still learning all this stuff.

Thanks for the replies

To get the RAM to install on that motherboard, go in to the Rig Settings of your rig and check Overclocking. That is there to make sure you are aware of the overclocking requirements to get the installed RAM to run at its actual speed.
