Speed isn't a factor as this will be an upgrade from a mechanical drive. I want longevity and reliability. What SSD would you recommend to meet those two? I like the reviews and price point of Intel 530 240GB at $139.99 and Crucials M500 240GB at &119.99. I'm open to suggestions.

the whole ssd longevity thing is not exactly relevant to most users really unless you are writing terabytes per day.

saying that i would still recommend MLC flash and not TLC... not that you would probably ever run out as these drives will last easily 10 years plus.

i personally have had a crucial m4 for the past few years and its a great reliable drive, as crucial is micron who are one of the biggest memory producers in the world. so for you i would recommend the crucial m500 as these are great drives.

Based off of what I've read before purchasing my second (and third) SSD, Intel and Samsung generally have the best reliability, and last the longest. Reason why I went with Samsung is that it was cheaper.

But again, in general, a SSD will last longer than a standard mechanical hard drive due to not having moving parts.

just to mention.. the samsung drives (apart from the pro) actually use TLC 3bit nand, as opposed to the intel and crucial that use MLC 2bit.. so even though they will all have great lifespans the TLC will not last as long as the MLC
