help recovering info off of WD1600BEVT

Well, you can't connect a naked hard drive to another laptop. You either need to borrow a desktop to plug it into or get something that will connect the SATA interface on the drive to the USB port on your other PC.
There are many elegant solutions with an empty enclosure that will make your disk into an external drive. Or you can go for the simple temporary solution, something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002
Then you have to find out if the disk is in good shape or you need disk recovery software...
