well i cand have a clear answer on that.it depends on the mobo, since we cant determine which bios version will have out of the box.usualy the bios update is needed for the fx 125W cpus octa-core usually.but the latest 970 (the reversion) does support like this one. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-m5a97r.... your cpu is listed on the supported and also the official asus site doesnt reffer to any need of bios update.https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A97_LE_R20/

yes it can ,but you need a more expensive mobo with good heatsink on the vrm's(voltage regulator module) for proper o/c ability that most amd970 mobo doesnt have at that price range,( like the asus m5a97 r2). so since you need to invest a bit mor money for o/c better go with amd990 like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... has good heatshink and better components for stressful operations like o/c and several other nice features.http://www.asrock.com/mb/amd/fatal1ty%20990fx%20killer/
or a tleast this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

all 990fx support 125w 8core cpu since its a newer mobo. ASRock 970 EXTREME4 also support AM3+ 8-Core Processor
''This board is designed to build up the most powerful system and delivers the most demanding technology for users nowadays. Just enjoy next generation computing with ASRock 8-Core CPU Ready motherboard.'' this is actually from the asrock official site.
i would prefer the asus though its only 5$ more but has 3-years warranty and better vrm cooling but if you are on a very tight budget go with it, what can i say!
