I have a system with windows 7 and 8.1 in two separate drives. Few days ago I booted from 8.1 to 7 and there was no sound from integrated sound card, though I managed to get it from HDMI monitor. When I tried rebooting to 8.1 I faced an automatic attempt to repair and a 0xC000021a error. Tried to boot to windows 7 and only got black screen with active cursor and no system sounds. Furthermore, after a windows 8.1 failure the drive with it disappears from bios until pc is power cycled.
There are no system restore points in 8.1 and restoring the w7 did not help.
Tried with no luck:
renamed avg files in system32/drivers as these are the ones where safe mode stucks.
safe mode results same situation as normal boot
startup repair

A hardware problem is possible but I have no idea how to diagnose it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for your attention, James Mason.

Windows 7 was first. I was going to reinstall it anyway because of the GPU problem ( https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?527253-Blue-screen-and-crash-on-Ultra-High ). The GPU problem was the reason of w8.1 trial at the first place though problem persists in w8.1 as well... So W8.1 is not going to stay, I guess.

I also tried disabling every integrated device in bios: audio, USB3, network, etc. with no result.

Tonight I am going to:
1. test RAM again (last test was a moth ago as I have some problems for months now)
2. measure voltages of PSU
3. install windows on yet another HDD to see what happens.

As this PC is under warranty, sending it to an IT shop is also an option, but as it might take indefinite time to return to me I hesitate doing that.

btw, this is my buid:

W8 is installed on a separate old Maxtor SATA drive.
