So I am looking into buying a new graphics card so I can run my games better (I know a Dell but still, good computer.) My friend had given me a suggestion for the EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti, but I am skeptical about buying it since it said that I need at least 400 watt power supply but my PC only provides me with 250 watts. Still he insisted that I can still use it because it does not require that much power to use it even though it has a higher recommended power supply than I have on hand. So is there any solution to this and not fry my motherboard, any response would be great. Thanks.

Solution
your dell wasnt disigned for gaming perposes, but since you have the quad core you could be playing some games using a gpu like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150682. (doesnt require additional power) but upgrading the psu is inevitable.the seasonic 350 would do. so we are talking about 170$. what games do you have in mind?

Thanks but the only problem is that I don't think my motherboard can have a new power supply without buying a new motherboard all together

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA3SD1DD1664. it would always run maxed out though.

well i must say im wrong man for a little hasty.i studied further on tfx power supplys and it seems that dont have the 6 pin cables needed to feed a gpu.http://www.silentpcreview.com/Seasonic_SS-350TGM_Gold_TFX this is a review for the seasonic. better get a gpu without the need of extra power or change to an atx case and psu. also what are the exact dell's specs a 750ti could probably be crippled due to cpu bottleneck.:ange:

sorry man for misleading you! is that the dell?http://stuartconnections.com/products/Computers/Systems/Desktops/Dell/Studio_540_540s/description.htm . if you have the celeron i wouldnt invest on a gpu on that system. you wont be playing games.if you have the dual-quad core this would suffice http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150682. doesnt require extra voltage but needs still needs the psu upgrade.

Alright, thank you and whenever I look up to upgrade my psu I see that it could screw up my whole system if I take out the pre installed power supply

Cod WaW, Garry's mod I run that great already but that kind of stuff I don't plan on playing new high quality games I enjoy the old stuff way more but the highest upgradable graphics card is really what I'm looking for and my budget is around $220 all together
