My audio isn't working at all and hasn't been for a few months now.
Headphones don't work, speakers don't work. I've tried EVERYTHING.
I think it stopped working after I installed my new graphics card, but when I took it out, the audio still wasn't working.
When I try to click on the audio icon in the corner it goes straight to troubleshooting and it says "No speakers or headphones are plugged in."
For my audio driver it just says "High Definition Audio Device." and nothing else. It doesn't say Realtek or AMD. Just HD Audio Device. When I try to update my drivers it just says they're up to date.
For my playback devices there's only "Digital Audio HDMI" and it says it's not plugged in (obviously).
I also tried to enable my onboard sound but there isn't any options to do that in BIOS for me.
I've ran out of ideas.
If any of you need any specs let me know.

Also: I don't know if this is important, but for my sound card it just says I have a "High Definition Audio Device". Does this mean my actual sound card isn't being recognized? I believe my current one is on my motherboard....

On your screen shot the image of the monitor seems to show a red down-arrow on it. Is that something you can click for a menu of choices? I'm intrigued that is says "2 - High Definition Audio Device". I am wondering why the "2 - " is there.

I note also the little choice box at the bottom that says "Set Default" with a down-arrow beside it. Does that actually offer you more than one choice?

Many modern vid cards (including yours, apparently) contain their own sound output chip so they can send sound out on a HDMI port. In your case, and many others', the mobo also contains a sound chip. I expect that, before the vid card install, you were using the mobo's sound chip and connecting to its outputs on the back on the case. Now those don't work.

Here is what I suspect has happened. When you installed the new vid card, it automatically also installed the Wiindows driver for the sound chip on that card. Then it made a change in Windows' settings to make that system the default sound output device. But you did not know that, and have not tried plugging your audio cords into that vid card's output connectors. In fact, many such vid cards do not actually offer output connectors to plug into - they assume you will send sound out via the HDMI cable to a monitor (or TV) that has speakers and you'll hear things that way. So, I think your system is sending sound out in a way you cannot access easily, and never did plan to use.

I assume that you want sound to work as it used to. That is, you want sound to be output by the mobo's sound chip through the ports on the back of your case, where you plug in your speakers and headphones. That CAN be done with a small change. To understand, here's the key: Windows can only use ONE audio output device at a time. Right now it is set, I believe, to use the vid card's output system. Click on "Start" at lower left, and choose the Control Panel. From it click on Sound and Audio Devices. In the window that opens, click on the "Audio" tab. The top block is "Sound Playback" with a drop-down window. Click on the down-arrow to open the choices. Within that list, click on the output device on your mobo - probably the Realtek HD Audio output. Now at the bottom of that window click on the "OK" button. This will tell Windows to change to using the mobo's audio output system, and you should have sound available again on the back-panel ports you used before.

Thank you for the quick response, but unfortunately I don't have many options for my audio...

All of my disabled/disconnected devices are checked to show too.

I see I'm using a different version of windows than you are. Your screen shot shows you looked in Device Manager. In my Windows, if I look there, I don't have a way to set the default audio output device. For me to do that, I must NOT select SYSTEM in Control Panel. I must select "Sound and Audio Devices" to get to the window containing an "Audio" tab to make the selection. Do you have such a choice available in Control Panel?

I can go to Control Panel > Sound and then it brings up the "Sound" window in my screenshot.
I don't think I can choose anything else..
I know how to set the default audio device from that window but the only thing I have to choose from is the "Digital Audio (HDMI)". I have no other options..

I'm using Windows 8.1
