Faster VRAM or Not?

I was debating on buying the MSI R9 280x 6gb model or the Gigabyte GTX 770 4gb model. The VRAM on the AMD card is 6000mhz while the one on the nVidia card is 7000mhz. I wanted to know if there would be any significant performance gains with faster VRAM.

What res are you going to be using with these cards? Why do you need 6gb / 4 gb of vram... the vram speed is meaningless unless you also know the bit rate aswell.. the GTX 770 has a 256 bit bus while the 280x is 384 bit. So the Memory bandwidth of the GTX 770 is 224.3 GB/s while the 280x is 288 GB/s, so even though the 280x has slower ram it has a higher bit rate making the memory bandwidth bigger than the 770.

As for the amount of ram on the card 3gb/4gb is more that enough if you are playing at 1080p... The only reason you would want a 6gb card is if you are using surround/eyefinity with 3 1080p+ monitors while also running 2 or more video cards.
