Hi,

I'm an complete noob when it comes to HW (as you can tell below).

After about a month of use and a recent update of the audio drivers the PC froze and crashed. When trying to reboot I get the "reboot and select proper boot device" msg. In BIOS the SATA port with the DVD-drive is found, but not the main SSD or the secondary; it says not present. I don't have a copy of the OS so no possibility to reinstall on another HD.

Could it be faulty SATA cables, MOBO or SSD?

specs:
MSI B85M-E45, Socket-1150, m-ATX, B85, DDR3, 1xPCIe-x16, USB 3.0, VGA, DVI, H

Intel® SSD 530 Series 180GB 2.5", 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s, 20nm, MLC, 7mm, 540/490MB/s read/
Seagate Barracuda® 1TB SATA 6Gb/s (SATA 3.0), 64MB Cache, 7200RPM, 3.5"

Thanks a bunch.

Solution
Could be any of the 3 that your listed, your going to have to try swapping stuff around.

First thing I would do is connect the ssd's to the dvd sata cable/power as you know these seem to be ok and put the dvd on the ssd's sata cable/power.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. Tried the SATA cable used for DVD-drive to no luck. However, when trying to access BIOS (pressing del on startup) nothing happens while I have the secondary HDD connected. There's only win 8.1 installed on the SSD, so no conflicting OS.

It's only when I use the SATA for the DVD something else than "not present" is shown in the BIOS.

Hi again, been trying to swap around between the three. The SATA cables seems to be working fine, can now find both the secondary HDD and the DVD-drive, but not the SSD.

I guess the conclusion is broken SSD?
