Ok so I already have a computer and its very nice, but I'm thinking about getting a new computer! But at the same time I'm not sure if I can upgrade the one I have... The one i have right now is an Asus 17" laptop with the specs of:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz 2.00GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB
System Type: 64-bit Operating system

I've had this computer since 2009 and it still works just fine.. Anyway is it possible to upgrade a laptop even??? Or should I just get a new one.. And if you suggest getting a new one, please give me some good specs. :D

What do you use your computer for? Gaming or internet browsing/general purpose?

Most laptops cannot be upgraded with the exception of the hard drive typically. If you are looking for gaming performance, you should look to a desktop since laptop gaming is really expensive and doesn't last you as long as a desktop which can be upgraded to keep up with technology.

If you want a desktop, would you be willing to try building it? <--- Do it :)

Edit: If you don't use it for gaming, you could probably stick a SSD in the laptop to get faster loading.

I use it for both, but mostly gaming. So what would you recommend if I were to build it?

Sorry for the slow reply. I'm not the best at full builds yet since I'm a bit lacking in knowledge of motherboards and cpu's +cooling but if you post your budget, if you will need a monitor/mouse/keyboard/OS in the budget, location (city/state) then one of the guys here can come up with a great build for your needs.

Yeah the only things you can upgrade in laptops is the hard drive and the RAM which "can" provide noticiable performance increases, but that depends entirely on what you use your laptop for.

Laptops are poor gaming solutions due to poor heat management, and the expense required to build one comparable to a gaming system (like 50% more at least) is prohibitive.

A reasonable budget for a gaming computer is $700-800, although I did throw together this $600 build: (This is technically outdated and could be made a bit cheaper if requested)

Computer budgets don't include things like Monitors or keyboards and mice typically, because they will break the budget, but you should alot around $200-250 for a total monitor/keyboard/mouse solution.
