Upgrading question from Win7 to Win8.

I'm your typical PC gamer, and have considered upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 recently just because I honestly like the Windows 8 look/metro design. Now I have a few hundred Gigabytes of games/drivers installed that would take quite a bit of time to re-download/install if I had ever lost them all, so when upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 will I loose these games, drivers, and programs?

  1. A custom install(in place upgrade) will let you keep whatever is compatible with 8

All I'm planning on doing is inserting said CD, and choosing the "Upgrade" option when prompted, and going from there. Doing that how I said would I loose any games, drivers, programs?

Yes that is it should keep anything that won't conflict with 8. You may want to download the upgrade adviser which will tell you which of your programs will no longer work under 8 and should be removed before install.
