Nope, GPU upgrade within a laptop are nearly impossible, even if possible the components would cost at least of a few hundred dollars.

Thank you, I was afraid of that. But the HP Envy 700-027 is a desktop not a laptop. Does that make a difference?

Actually it makes a huge difference, but since I was dumb enough to not be able to find a picture, I just assumed that it was laptop.

Can you give me the processor model and preferably the HDD capacity, RAM size so I can narrow down which one you're talking about.
Another way out is to just take a picture of the back of the case and the motherboard.

My HP 700-027C has a I5 processor, with 1TB, 12GB RAM, and I upgraded my power supply from 300 to 450.

Thanks tcb1005.

You can go with either
GTX 750: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I9I8MWS
GTX 750 Ti: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
maybe a
Ry 250: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

However, things will be different if you're willing to upgrade the PSU, which will open up a new world of potential and price.

Update: so you already upgraded to 450W?
If so then what is your budget for this GPU upgrade?

Budget is not my major issue, although I would like to keep it under $300, what I am worried about is compatibility, I had someone try to install a ATI Radaon 5770, but after downloading the driver the system would not recognize the card.

I am thinking that it might be the fault of the card or it was just a very special situation. In my knowledge, all GPU fits all motherboard as long as they got a PCI-E x16 slot, which is about 99% of the modern motherboard. Another requirement would be by the PC case's width which will determine a full height GPU or low profile GPU, but that doesn't affect compatibility. Last consideration would be PSU's wattage or 12V rail to be specific.

In you case, all 3 requirements tell me that any PSU will work with your system as long as it is not too power hungry as you only have 450W.

Right now it depends on what you're trying to achieve with this GPU upgrade, what are you expecting to for it to do?

Thank you for all the information, at this point I guess it might be a bad graphics card, I just did not want to go ahead and get a different card and then have the system not recognize it too. As far as what I am expecting the card to do, I just want to prevent lag when playing modern games.
