I built a brand new desktop. I put it all together like normal. triple checking all hook ups for power and data. i hit the power button. The boards audio boost lit up bright red/pink. all fans (CPU/Case) started running. The CPU fan kicked on what seems full power for a second then dropped into what i would imagine is idle speed. After all this happens i get no boot/post. I tried using the graphics card with VGA, hdmi, and DVI separately. I also tried to use the on board graphics with the same type connections. I have dual screens and tried each screen separately for each connection type. No signal received at all and monitor goes into standby mode.

I have done a ton of research over the last week. Here is what i have tried. I re pasted the CPU twice. I connected the cpu fan into slot 1 and 2 separately. I have done a out of the box basic run with just 1 stick of memory, no graphics card, cpu, cpu fan, cpu heat sink, and psu only connected through vga, hdmi, and dvi separately. I have changed wall sockets with and without surge protector. I have shot the psu connectors with a multi meter. All check exactly on the mark. I have hooked up the atx and the main power and checked the CPU fan connections and they are getting the 12 volts as required. I have tried two different PSUs. I just recieved the thermaltake smart 650w. I have also tried one stick of memory separately and i have tried both at the same time. in different DIMM slots as well. I have double checked the mobo mounting studs and they are good. no short. Which wouldn't matter because it failed the out of case board check run.

Here is a link to my specs. http://

I really am out of ideas. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Looks like a display issue with the motherboard. If you are still within the return period for your motherboard I would go that route. Also, a little suggestion with the GD45 you don't have a LED post which tells you the status of whats going on. What you may want to do is go up to a board like the GD65 which has a LED post display.

this weekend when i am off work. i Will try a few more things. I want to realy check the CPU pins. I did run though the checklist on this site. I want to rerun through it with the knowledge of the PSU not being the problem. What else could it be. I can RMA the board but thats 1 - 2 weeks of not having it.

ah will do. can i get a good link for the GD65? that is if i can get a refund. Also is there really an issue with MSI boards and PSUs like i have been reading. if so i guess ill need a new board type.

You are right you don't necessarily need them but they are really nice to be able to diagnose things when they aren't working.

ok yep. exactly what i thought was the problem. thanks for the help and if i replace the board. i will take your suggestions.

Slightly bent out of position CPU slot pin. I also changed from my big cpu cooler heat sink to the stock one that comes with the CPU. I doubt, however, that the cpu heat sink is the problem and i am sure the pin was. I will install the after market cooler in a couple of minutes.
