Hello

What is the point of buying a Core i7 4771 instead of a 4770S? The only difference is their normal clock speed, but they have the same boost.
Wouldn't this mean, that the performance is the same?

Is this relevant when the CPU is to be used mainly for gaming?

Thanks.

Solution
I wont recommend the 4770S for gaming at any point and I wouldn't recommend the 4771 either.

For gaming, you wouldn't need anything above a 4670k, if you really want a i7, get the 4770k.

My recommendations: Get the 4670k, spend the money you save going with an i5 to get a better GPU.

the S-series is designed for lower power operation e.g. in mini-itx cases with mini itx coolers. having lower base clock helps with power use and heat dissipation. for gaming, core i7 4771 is better i.e. get as much stock clockrate as possible with non-o.c. cpus.
