@BillMan - the additional speed of USB 3.0 comes from new controller talking directly to the CPU. So, either get PCI/PCIx add-on board with USB 3.- interface, or new motherboard / laptop.
What is the peripheral you need USB 3.- so desperately for?
USB 3.0 uses 5 additional contacts and conductors to attain the higher speeds and supply more power. It's not like USB 1.1 to 2.0, where it just runs faster.
Couldn't I use a Y cable to power it, and two other ports to obtain speed? I have 3 usb 2.0 ports total.
PCI card is not an option in my laptop. I really wish I had 3.0 right now though hoping someone can shed some light on how to?
USB to ethernet? ANything really.
