I got a refurb computer off newegg cause it was cheap newer than the one I had which died day after I ordered new one.

It came with W8 installed and nothing else . no instructions and no cd.

I am wanting to get a new SSD drive and put in it so what do i do? I am not used to not having actual disks to work with.

I do have acronis 2014. can I just copy the original HD to the new one or what?

I will probably upgrade to better version soon also but first I want to get the hd situation figured out.

since the machine is "new to me" I want to do this asap before I get too much installed on the new computer.

Ahh alright ya that is pretty common now actually not to have any disks.
Two ways to do it
1: Windows backup should have an option (system image) to make a recovery DVD and backup.
2: Use Clonzilla (my favorite) to make an image of the drive on an external drive to restore from in the future

before I do that what do I need to do about recovery in case it goes wrong?

I have never dealt with not having actual CD's before . I am assuming I need to make a recovery disk for whats installed right now as I recieved it.

Ive only had this for 1 day so excuse the dumb questions. my main rig died and all this was sudden. I was just fortunate that I had snagged a cheap rig off NewEgg right before.

I have decided to install my new Velociraptor in this system and remove the hard drive in it currently.

so same thing here will apply correct? clone the current cd to Raptor and then remove the old HD?

I am still going to go with SSD soon but I have decided to use my Raptor for now and upgrade elsewhere in system. SSD keep going down in price so I am in no hurry to loose money on the raptor I bought. I will use it as its better than the drive that came with system

Yes everything still applies
