I have a project I started in 2008. I was 18 at the time and knew enough about computers to get me in trouble. I purchased a tower, 2x2GB Corsair DDR2 modules, a power supply, fans, etc. The only thing I was missing was motherboard and Processor. The next week I decided to join the service. Now 6 years later I want to finish it. At the time it was designed to be a gaming computer. But being entirely out dated I just want a tower I said I built on my own. I do a ton of movie downloads and am coming near full on a 2TB HDD. I swapped my wifes old HP motherboard, CPU, and HDD to the tower and proceeded to download the new BIOS since I was experiencing some issues with reading the RAM. Being it was in the middle of the night and after working all day I accidently downloaded the wrong BIOS! Yea, I screwed up! I thought about going online and ordering the same motherboard for an easy fix. But I can't find it for under $80 after shipping. In the end, my goal is to have this tower sit connected to my TV with a couple of HDD's and be able to watch them from the drive. Nothing fancy, no gaming, just downloading and viewing. I need suggestions on a fix. I'm considering buying a cheap off-lease computer online and gutting it. Problem is, I need to find one compatible with my RAM. 4GB's Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 PC2 6400. Everything else should just fall into place. Any suggestions?

Building in terms of outdated technology, which DDR2 is, will be more expensive in the long run than just buying all new hardware and building something up to date. And you may not be able to find what ya want as well. Sell the RAM on ebay and buy new. Just my 2 cents.

Back then, BIOS chips were replaceable by the user. I don't know the correct terminology but the chip just plugged into a socket. You may be able to replace the BIOS chip and be back in business. Lots of BIOS info here: http://www.wimsbios.com/

Otherwise, do as suggested above and build a new, updated system.

If it is at all possible that you know someone with the same motherboard, I would re-flash the BIOS chip with the correct version. I'm really confused at how you got that far. The flashing program should have sent out a bunch of red flags indicating the Checksum was different.
