I am writing because I am working on a friends computer, a windows 8 HP Laptop. I have very little love for windows eight. But, he has downloaded a supposed "Anti Virus" software from pcsafework.com, before he asked for my help when a pop up came up saying he had received a trojan virus and the pcsafework software came up saying "download this". This seems a scam, and a possible avenue for a trojan to make its way onto his computer. This supposedly went through a download sequence and installed, but I cannot find any similar program to uninstall. I also tried to turn on windows defender, but recieved error code 0x80070002. I googled it and it informed me that the probable cause is another antivirus is installed, overriding the defender updates. I need help, is this website, that charges 49.99 for its product and hails from Mexico a legitimate site with a legitimate product or do I need to do more digging on his computer? Also, how will I resolve the windows defender update issue? Thank you for your help.
