I have a Radeon 7770 and a gtx 560 ti and I want them both in my pc. I have the proper amount of slots, power, ram, cpu, and windows 7 64 supports this combo. I had it working for a day and then the 560 ti had a driver update and now aero doesn't work. My 560 is in the top slot of my mobo connected to a small monitor via dvi while the 7770 is in my second slot hooked up a sharp aquos flat screen via hdmi.

I use the rig for gaming and also my design work for my indie game studio. I need the 560 for its raw power in design while I'm just using the 7770 as a port for my second monitor. I'd like to keep bot cards in my pc because it's nice to say i'm in the small group of people that has both green and red brands in their rig.

I'm totally okay with wiping out all the drivers and relocating the cards in their slots, but I need to know the best way to configure these to get everything working. If I have to have the 560 as a dedicated physx or hybrid physx, so be it. I'm just totally lost now.

Solution
Well, trying to combine amd and nvidia is just a plain no-no. There's a reason people use drivercleaner to wipe out any existing drivers for different graphics cards. Most likely, you're going to run into conflicts between them.

Solution

Hybrid Physx (using an AMD primary GPU with a Nvidia GPU for dedicated Physx processing) requires the use of older AMD drivers that were hacked to support the capability (custom drivers essentially). They are likely to not work properly, if at all, with the newly released AMD GPUs. Also, those drivers have not been updated in some time, so you take a chance with them, and potentially will suffer instability.

If Physx is really a priority for you, then I would suggest you get a strong Nvidia GPU to meet both your video processing and Physx processing needs.

Also the 560ti is more powerful than the 7770, so it would be better for gaming to use that as the primary GPU.
IMHO I would not bother with the hybrid, and use the 560ti. You shouldn't have any trouble running 2 monitors with it.
And with all the driver issues your likely to have (conflicts etc) it's not worth the time/hassle.

the problem running the two monitors is that The 560 doesn't have an hdmi or display port so I can't hook it up to my flatscreen which is higher res than this basic monitor iv'e got as a secondary. Since I had them working before with no issues I know it is possible and I'd rather not have to spend money to get an adapter for a screen I won't be using in 6 months to a year.

I checked in blender render if my 560 was still being recognized and it isn't so I take it that the nvidia drivers are blocking it's usage with the radeon. I hate that nvidia is so money hungry, why can't they just make true quality products without a scheme in the shadows.

Well this didn't work. It says i need to update my drivers, which are all the newest.

*edit* the service was actually disabled at startup for some reason. I set it to automatic and restarted it and still nothing.

Even with the stars? Well okay. At least this is a wholesome community. ;)

I probably will do that considering that the only thing this driver update added was optimal setting stuff for titanfall in the geforce experience. I can't imagine why that would break this though. What are your thoughts on that?

so you'd rather spend time pulling your hair out, trying to configure two different manufacturers GPU's to one system, which isn't supported formally by either manufacturer, and all the driver related issues (which you are soooo experiencing right now :) ) as opposed to spending 25 bucks on a vga-dvi adaptor........hmmmmm

If that's what you wanna do then go for it. I know what option I would take.

It's supported by the OS and that's what matters.

This is actually more of a fun puzzle for me than it is an Inconvenience. It's not stopping me from getting any work done, it's just not letting me use the full potential. Plus if I can figure this out than I should be able to do the same thing later with higher end cards. Over all though it's just helping me bide my time till the 800 series is released.

Well, as much as that is a statement in itself, I don't see the relevance if it's not supported on the driver level for the GPU's, and as has been eluded to already, is the reason why the OP is experiencing these issues.

Anyway, I've given my 2 cents worth, and I'm sure we can all trust your infinite knowledge Mousemonkey. Now all we're awaiting is your solution to his problem, and we'll all be more knowledgeable for it! :)

As you are so convinced what the issue is there is nothing I can do or say that will change your mind, that much is obvious. WDDM 1.1 is what allows the running of two different graphic drivers at the same time and the OP did mention it was working just fine before a driver update which would suggest a problem with an individual driver not the running of two different drivers.

your misinterpreting me :) I'm completely open to whatever the solution is...and most certainly aren't implying that I have the answer to this conundrum, And thought I was quite clear by deferring to someone with more knowledge of such things, than I (ie.you!) I'm a PC fan and like figuring out these things too, ya know. However obvious my assertions are or are not, if you give the right solution, I've learned something new. Sorry if you assumed I was being cynical, that wasn't my intention.
