Healthy 700W, I assume you mean a good quality unit then XFX,antec,Corsair(one of their better models) or Seasonic. Of course other units can be good quality too.

I might advise you to not spend all of your money solely on a GPU, you may see a benefit upgrading mobo/CPU/Ram, especially RAM to DDR3.

Your GPU isn't too bad and there may be a bottleneck is you stick an expensive card in like the GTX 770.

For an extra £40 I can get a 290. Is it worth the increase in price? Also have my eye on Mantel, should this be a deciding factor? The one downside to the 290 seems to be the noise levels... my 560ti is already quite loud.

On the contrary, bitcoin mining has only severely hit America. R9 290 still performs at or over GTX 780's standard:

They are especially good for high resolution screens, if you were planning to go 1440p or 4k

The custom cooled r9 290s (such as the msi one) are very quiet. Mantle is a very big project but shouldn't be a deciding factor. Still the r9 290 trades blows with the more expensive GTX 780 without mantle, so think about what will happen if and when mantle comes.

EDIT: also I agree, don't spend all your money on a GPU. If you are ok with GTX 770 speeds, get that and buy an SSD as well (unless you already have one)

Okay, So Here's the deal.

At £300 you're in a curious price point because none of the £300 cards are particularly worth buying.

Reasons?

You've got a choice between expensive 4gb verions of the GTX 770 or Cheap HOT reference cooled 290s.

So, naturally you ignore both of those options and either choose to get a 770 for around £250 or a 290 for around £330-£350(which won't have a heat issue)

I'd be apprehensive to purchase that 290 as it has no picture, it could merely be a hot running reference cooled mess as are all the 290s in that range.

Edit - Further research leads me to believe it's a reference cooled card and will run hot/loud.

Yep thats a reference card.

This is actually quite simple. If you have a 1080p screen go with the gtx 770. If you have a 1440p screen or are going to upgrade to 1440p, 1600p or 4k then go with r9 290.
