I already have a student copy of Server 2012 but I don't know if it is acceptable for a gaming OS on a build I am planning. Would It be worth it to buy a copy of Windows 8 or would Server suffice?

Solution
Yes, but you will still have trouble finding a driver specifically for a Server operating system. Since Server 2012 is based on Windows 7 code, I would install a Windows 7 driver (64-bit). I just checked AMD's website and they do not offer drivers for server operating systems for my Radeon HD 7950 video card. So in your case you would install the Windows 7 driver (64-bit because I don't think Server 2012 comes in 32-bit).

I wouldn't try gaming on Server 2012. I tried it once, either on Server 2012 or Server 2008 R2, and the old game (Medal of Honor:Spearhead), ten years old, would crash. I think the Server drivers for Intel's HD 4000 graphics had issues. Either that or it didn't have proper drivers at all.

Thanks, do you think a dedicated card would have better driver support?

Thanks for the help, I'll try it when I get the machine set up and if it doesn't work I guess I'll just have to buy an OS.
