First time build, windows won't start.

Finally got to put together my new gaming build yesterday. New processer, new motherboard, lovely new graphics card, and 8gb of RAM. Everything fit together just as I'd hoped. I used the optical drive from my most recent computer.

Here's where I think there may be a problem (first time builder so I don't know a lot): I used my hard drive from my most recent computer which already has windows 7 installed.

So when I tried to start up the computer, it flashed the BIOS screen, and then says starting windows, and then fails and retries. (Gives me the startup failed screen every try after the first). Windows startup repair doesn't help. I can access the BIOS setup screen. But I'm not extremely tech savvy so if you could please tell me what I am doing wrong or something I am not doing, it would be most appreciated.

Thanks

You have to re-install windows. You can't use one installation on a different HDD/mobo combo.

Do You have the Windows installation disks? If you do, you may want to re-install Windows. If the new motherboard differs from the original motherboard of the drivers for the old motherboard may be too different. I would do a transfer of your files from your old computer to an external hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer. , then go into the BIOS of the motherboard, which you were able to get into and change the option to boot from your optical drive. You can wipe and reformat the old hard drive and do a new installation of Windows 7. You need the product code for your Windows 7 OS. If its is not an OEM version you can re-activate the OS during the installation or afterward.
