EVGA 750 Ti incompatible with ASUS P8P67?

I just tried upgrading my graphics card to the new GTX 750 Ti from EVGA. I have an ASUS P8P67 Deluxe mobo--latest 3602 UEFI firmware. When starting, the mobo hangs at the splash Press DEL key to Enter setup, but no keys work. It locks up tight on this screen (but display is coming through the new card!). Putting in the old card works, new card locks up. Anyone have any ideas how to remedy? I'd really like to use the new card! It doesn't look like ASUS is updating the firmware on this mobo anymore.

Hi,
I can see we have almost the same Motherboard (Asus P8P67 Evo) and recently i added new GPU (R9 270X), and had zero problems. You may try to install the GTX 750Ti to the second PCIE 2.0 x16 slot i believe it was gray in color and it is just above the battery. It will run at x8 mode but it is not a problem

Forgot to mention I did try that, I put in the second slot, same result--it freezes on the ASUS 'splash' screen. It would be replacing an AMD 6850 card, so I know it's not power, it looks as if the card's UEFI BIOS is somehow in conflict with the mobo during initialization. I've never had a graphics card stop at this point...I suppose it's possible I have a bum card?
