AMD A6-6300K vs Intel Pentium G3220

Hi all. I am trying to decide between the AMD A6-6400K and the Intel Pentium G3220 for a basic HTPC. I do not plan on adding ANY aftermarket graphics card. It seems obvious that the Intel is more efficient and has better CPU scores (unless the AMD is overclocked), but that the AMD is an APU so that it has better on-board graphics. However, when I look at integrated GPU benchmarks, it seems like the Intel HD GPU beats out the Radeon HD 8470D GPU by a little. Is this really the case - the CPU and on-board GPU of the Intel is better, or am I missing something?

Thanks a ton.

I doubt you'll see much difference between the two in an HTPC; both integrated GPUs will do a good job. The downside to an APU is that it draws more processing power away from the CPU and gives it to the GPU. In theory, that's good, but as an HTPC doesn't rely heavily on the GPU, it's a waste of processing power.

The G3220 would be my choice, particularly as HTPCs have small form factors and that processor runs quieter and cooler than the A6.

HI Eric Joh , for your decide , HTPC and No plan to gpu , the a6-6400k AMD Richland dual core is fine enough , Just use more signification ram speed for this Apu . 1600 mhz and more if you can . you can play with this apu far cry 2 and all games until 2008 in medium to high detail . it easy to OC in the future when you want and take more performance , And if you exactly know for what you use , it is what you need . ( sorry for dad language - ;)

I thank you all for responding to my question, but it was posted almost 2 months ago. I ended up going with the A6-6400k and was fairly displeased with the performance. Even when playing blu-ray quality movies or using a webcam at 720p, most of the CPU was being used. I even overclocked it from 3.9 -> 4.4GHz and saw little improvement. I should have spent a little more and went A8 or with the i3-4130. I can't believe how much difference exists between an AMD CPU at 3.9GHz and an Intel CPU at 3.9GHz. Maybe I am missing something that accounts for the difference of performance, but wow...

Bearing the price point of both the cpus: Amd's 6400 in india operates around 7.5 k & intel 3220 operates around 3.5 k. so there should be no comparison point by price point. plus intel gives a tough fight at nearly half the price along with other benefits ie. power, no extra coolers, etc.
If amd want to be in the game then it should either lower the same performing chip's prices or increase the parallel chip's performances.

It should be better to compare A4-4000 with Intel G3220 at the same price point.
