Best Motherboard/cpu Under $500 for gaming

I have a HP XW9300 Workstation. I want to make it a gaming box. So I need to put in a new motherboard and CPU. What would the community recommend? The XW9300 currently has 16 G Memory, 1TB Harddrive and Windows 7. Those items were all new at Christmas. Will I have to buy a new tower and memory since i have to buy a new motherboard and cpu. I also need a graphics card.

When we upgraded the xw9300 it could not handle the Gforce 660i so now we are going to try to rebuild it. Any help is appreciated. thanks

thats a pretty old motherboard, youd need to buy new ram,mobo, and psu to get it up to snuff. It still uses ddr1, unless youve done soething to it before or the previous owner did. depending on your budget we can help.

Thanks; I was hoping I could use some of what I bought at christmas. Seems the harddrive is all that I can save. The Power Supply Unit is 700 watt. Does that have to be replaced too? Is that what psu is?
