I simply changed the multiplier on my 8350 to 21, which equals 4200mhz. Turbo is on, and I set Cool n' Quiet to "Disabled by CPU", and left everything else default. The processor never goes above 52C still, but programs arn't registering my changes?

When I had all of my bios to defualt, the CPU would run 4.01 or 4.04 in task manager. CPUZ and HWinfo showed all 8 cores at 4113mhz ingame, with leaps to 4214mhz out of game. all cores varied between these two.

Now with the 21x multiplier, (should be easy for my M5a99FX Pro to handle) Task manager shows my CPU at 4.09ghz all the time, but my CPU-Z and HWMonitor show the same exact values they did before: 4113mhz. CPU-Z varys 4113 to 4214, but the multiplier states 20.5 (7-21) a majority of the time, with spikes to 21x multi.

Is this a side effect of my CPU's turbo mode, or is software simply not reading it correctly? In my bios, it recognizes my 4200mhz, but in nothing else can it be seen
I think its very odd and would like an answer to why and how I can read my specs in windows. The stock cooler seems a bit louder, but programs so far show me I'm maintaining the same temps?

P.S., I'm NOT going for major overclock, just something to keep it at 4.2ghz so I don't need to rely on Turbo, and to raise my minimum FPS a bit.

P.S.S. My bios are 1708, my Chipset is up to date, and any other specs I have are in my signature.

Its probably an effect of the turbo boost. I'm pretty sure that sets your CPU to overclock when needed. Also some programs don't pick it up in general. For instance geforce experience doesn't see my 4.0 overclock on my intel chip but CPU-Z does. As long as something like CPU-Z says it and you know for sure its set in the BIOS with none of AMD's turbo crap on than you're golden.

Sorry but I have to disagree with Jook-D. I know that the turbo boost can slow down your PC a bit. If you're at lets just say 3500 and it needs to get to 4200 for whatever you're doing it wont be as fast if it was just at 4200 always.

Hmm. Well so far, it runs a tad smoother, my fps isn't as choppy. In turbo, task manager said my CPU max was 4.113mhz, and it resided at 4.04ghz. Now, it says my max is 4.21ghz, and my CPU stays at 4.09ghz 0_o
I'll play with turning turbo off and on, and maybe a few cpu configuration settings, and get back to you guys

I honestly don't have a clue what you're talking about.

If a task requires higher CPU performance it will clock up to the higher speed. I believe the FX CPUs can vary their clock speed up to 30 times a second, could be off on that. Regardless, you will not notice a difference. 4200MHz is 4200MHz, turbo or no turbo.

Not to mention the power savings and lower heat output when your CPU downclocks with lower load.

as for CPU clocks in task manager, I was talking about the performance tab in Windows 8.1 Task manager.

The thing about turbo is that I guess it must have been set to a 20.5 multiplier, and it was taking over my manual OC speeds. Now, my CPU states a 4.17ghz speed (I'm guessing that's a solid average of my 8cores) and the max still at 4.21ghz now that I Disabled turbo.

With turbo disabled however, I am getting a solid 4214 across all 8 cores, and CPU-Z shows my speed at 4214x with the correct multiplier I added in bios, 21x (7-21) Temps are still kept the same (REALLY good fan controller, ramps it up just enough RPM's to keep it where it likes it)

I know what yyou are talking about, the power saving and such, and I am thinking of just running my CPU ratio auto, and then changing my turbo ratio up to 21x multiplier.

Turbo overriding your OC is what I expected.

As for the turbo/not, up to you bud.

Listen, I like turbo, but why does it automatically set itself at 4113mhz. I want turbo enabled, but I want it to turbo to 4.2ghz. I tried manually enabling turbo and setting it to a 21x turbo ratio, but it still only clocks to 20.5x, or 4113...

Is it possible the CPU only thinks it needs to get to 4113? I do have a 290 after all. I WANT it at 4.2 consistently rhough, as I do get frame drops in game with my 8350 at 4113mhz. When I forced 4214mhz onto my CPU, my minimum fps raised about 5fps in games.
Anything I can do without actually OCing it?
