If someone can help me with acquiring a build with around a $1200 budget, that would be great. I want to get the best possible graphics and processing for the money. The reason I decided a 500 watt power supply, because I already had one on hand. Should I upgrade the power supply for a better build or keep this one? Any help is appreciated.

Here's a nice build with top notch components.

DON'T use an old power supply with quality components , you risk damage if the power supply fails.

Upgrade. You can't use too much stuff with a 500W PSU in a 1200 $ PC.

Could you list the make and model of your power supply, as well as its age?

Instead of giving you a list from pcpartpicker, I will just give you a better idea of which parts will best suit your needs, and you can make your choices from there.

First off, will you be doing any CPU intensive tasking? Or will this system be primarily for gaming? If you just intend on gaming, which games will you be mostly playing?

The pivotal component in your build will be the GPU, you'll want to allocate as much of your budget as possible to the GPU without risking bottlenecks. For $1200 I would say the GTX 780 at $499-519 would be a good bet, and I would particularly recommend the ASUS DirectCU II, the MSi Gaming Edition, or the EVGA ACX Superclocked.

With the upcoming DirectX 12, I believe the CPU's role in a gaming rig will become less significant. I would recommend an Intel i5-4670K for around $219, and an LGA 1150 socket motherboard of around $150-170 from Gigabyte, MSi, or ASUS. You will not need more than 8GB of RAM unless you know for sure otherwise, and the rest of your budget should be able to be comfortably split between your case, cooling, and any additional accessories you may need.
