Hi Guys,

So, recently my father's computer decided it's too hard to go on and now it's practically dead. It's gonna need a new motherboard and I'm going with an ASUS Sabertooth, Z77 or Z87. Pending on the decision here.

So, we have an i5 3550, I'm thinking i7 is the way to go and 4th Gen but is it really worth it? I'm not really sure of the improvements either as CPU's aren't my strong point. Stastics on a few CPU's that could be suggest would be great. I'm open to AMD as well, even though I've not tried it before.

What is he doing with it? Is it HD Movie editing? Is he a gamer? I highly doubt he needs it unless he has a working circumstance.

Otherwise, I'm thinking of a i3-4130 with whatever.

Moderate Gamer, he has a GTX 570 at the moment. He does a lot of work with the computer as well.

Get an i5, then. He might want a better graphics card. Consider the Radeon R7 or R9. If he's a nVidia fan, then he might want a GeForce GTX660.
