Ram Card Clock Speeds

I'm looking into buying all the parts for a PC and building it from scratch. I've found about everything I need except RAM. I have found some RAM cards and I know that my motherboard can handle up to 1600 but if I were to get something with higher clock speeds would they still work without overclocking and get slowed down to suit the motherboard

yes but would the RAM cards still work properly even if the motherboard can't handle those speeds without overclocking. Just making sure as opposed to buying the cards and not being able to use them

all I'm asking is if the RAM cards will work with a motherboard even if the clock speed of the cards are too high for the motherboard

Might or might not, depends on the mobo defaults and the DRAM itself, generally Yes, but not always, which is why I asked about mobo and CPU, you said 'my motherboard' so sorry, didn't think it was that hard of a question....Be happy to step away.........
