Hey users,
I am thinking about scrapping my old HP Pavilion H8 1010 for the computer processor, RAM, Disk Drive, and Hard Drive. I will then buy a new power supply, case, and mother board. I am hoping that it is possible to remove the said components from the HP and that they will still be utilizable for the new pc.

I am planning on getting an ASUS M5 micro ATX AMD mobo, a Corsair 600W psu, and a Thermaltake mid tower. I will then use the 2x4GB RAM, i5 2.7GHz processor, and 1 TB Hard drive from the HP. I am just wondering if this is all possible and if you guys think this would be a good idea? Also if there are any other suggestions or alternatives to this process? Thanks in advance

PS: Will I be able to keep my OS and all of my data from hard drive? I do not want to have to purchase a new OS

OEM's (like HP, Dell, etc) use an OEM version that is tied to the MOBO & won't run on a different mobo (asides from being illegal)
but, use can use the drive as a 2nd drive and access your data - you will need a new OS.

so none of the parts would be usable from the hp? besides the drive being a secondary drive...

Actuallly all the parts are usable, it just once you switch the mobo out, the OS is no longer usable
