I have a Dell XPS desktop/ 8gb ram/ 2TB memory/ i7/ new 600w power supply/ new Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 video card. Windows 8
2 days ago, my computer just started freezing, then would power off. It would not turn itself back on automatically. It would stay on for about 10 minutes, power off....2 minutes power off....one minute power off.
So...I consulted with a few people and we came down to the problem being either: Power supply, video card, ram, or motherboard.
Since then I have installed a EVGA 600w Power Supply...computer now stays on. Games were playing too slow. Video card heating slightly.
Ran the video card through Furmark, shut down in less then 2 minutes, video card was hot. Video card was a Nvidia GForce 510ti.
Replaced the video card today with the above mentioned card....still get crappy lag trying to play Diablo 3 or CS:GO. I updated all the drivers.
So where do I go from here? Do I replace all 4 2gb ram sticks?
Am I missing something simple?
Thanks in advance.

Which model of Dell other than XPS be is a lot of XPS models, do you have? There was a time when Dell was putting out systems with bad motherboards that would first cause the PSU to go then go then the motherboard its self. I hope it is not so. Look around the CPU capacitors. See if they have any yellow brown gue on top of them.

Did you remove the old drivers before uninstalling the new ones, this may cause a conflict. To test RAM put one stick in and boot up, if you crash then try the same RAM in the next slot, repeat this for all your RAM. if you still crash after doing that then it's not RAM, if you can without crashing download programs to monitor your CPU and GPU heat.

We tried that. I have 4 sticks. I took all 4 out and then tried one at a time. I only had one stick in the first slot. When I booted the computer, it would just sit and beep. This continued unless I had 2 sticks in at a time.

I've have done all the downloading of drivers.....still won't run games right. Power is staying on. Fan seems to be running loud though. I have air cleaned it out completely. Pulling what little hair I have out. Should I just take it in and pay someone to look at it?
