Crossfire vs. New Card

Hey all, awhile back I bought a very nice 1000W PSU that was on sale for Black Friday, with the intentions of Crossfiring at some point. I currently have the 7870 GHz which I would crossfire with a 270x (for some reason, 7870s are more expensive than the 270x).

I know there are some support issues with Crossfire, but I think I'd be okay for the most part. Would it be better to get a better single card like the 290/770/780 or should I go for the Crossfire?

System build:

AMD FX-6300
8GB @ 2400 G.Skill RAM
ASRock 970 Extreme4
Sapphire 7870 GHz
1000W PSU

Yea, you'd do better on 3 monitors in crossfire I'd think.

I was using a FX 8320 @ 4.4. I moved from a HD 7850, to a GTX 780. I was able to increase my graphics settings, however, the spots that I'd drop fps with the 7850, I'd still drop with the 780, just at higher settings. Places such as, towns in Skyrim, or overlooks in boarder lands. Point being, sometimes frame drops are due to engine, or CPU limitations.

I'd just crossfire myself.

Use the 270x as the main card, for when crossfire doesn't work. Even than, if gaming at 1080p, it's more than enough card.

When crossfire does work, you'll have the same, or better performance of a better card, for less money.

Higher end cards are overrated if you ask me.

For the most part the 7870 is good for 1080p, but occasionally (especially on the newer games being released) I'm having to turn my settings down. It's nothing major, but it's nice being able to max a game without issue. I'm also getting a third monitor soon so maybe I could use Eyefinity with the Crossfire setup too.
