I'm a 20 year old engineering student planning on getting a master's degree in transportation design. I'm trying to teach myself Photoshop, Solid Works, and Alias so I figured I'd get a better laptop to work with. I'm getting a decent deal for an i5 4th Gen with 2gb dedicated 740m graphics but a friend recommended a 3rd Gen i7 since it's quad core. (4th i7 is outside my budget)
I'm planning to use this laptop for the next 4 to 6 years so what would you recommend?
Just wanted to add that I can't afford to spend too much and I know these specs are probably crap for the time frame I have in mind but this is all I can afford

Edit:
(I thought this was a forum.. Think I asked in the wrong part of the website)

My budget is less than 800.. Ideally, I'm looking to spend between 700 - 750 but 800 is the absolute maximum. I'll try looking around for i7s then.. Makes sense.

Do you guys know what's the best place to get it online?
Also, how big a difference does the graphic card make? I just read that the next generation 800m cards have been announced. Will they be priced around the same as the 740m? I can wait since I'm only planning to get it around June

Definitely get an i7, first because it gives you 4 physical cores and most i5's in laptops do not. And with...

Definitely get an i7, first because it gives you 4 physical cores and most i5's in laptops do not. And with i7 hyper threading technology it will give you 4 more virtual cores to boost performance even more. Many of the programs used in design are starting to utilize more cores so again get an i7. Also list your budget!

I would get the i7... unlike with desktops where the i5 and i7 are almost identical, on laptops the i5 is REALLY gimped. That 3rd gen i7 will be significantly more powerful then a 4th gen i5.
