I want to build a new and better gaming computer in let's say a year. I want to know if windows 8 is great for hardcore gaming. I think it looks cool. But I don't know.

Solution
it depends.....on one side it does have a 5-7% performance boost. on the side it has driver incompatibility issues and terrible third party support. win 7 doesnt have the 5-7% performance boost but it is more widely supported and less headaches all around. all in all i would stay stick with 7. by the time 7 becomes obsolete there will be a new better os anyway. i pay extra just to run windows 7 on my machines so i can use third party devices and drivers because windows 8/8.1 doesnt support alot of them

There have been benchmarks of gaming with Win 7 vs Win 8. There is no difference. I am currently using Win 8 64 bit and have not experinced any issues, and once you get used to the new style of windows and disable metro it is a decent operating system.

xbox controller levetron mech 5 my sd card reader my azio gm 2000 this is to name a few many other people have the same issue. not only that i have steam with a little over 150 games and i like my older games like x-com and my old system emulators....microsoft didnt i cant get them to run either. i got 8.1 and had it for 2 weeks before getting frustrated of the lack of support and downgraded to windows 7. alot of people agree with this.
