I have Windows 8 and upgraded to 8.1. I created a recovery disk on a 32 GB USB flash drive. My laptop didn't come with a CD/DVD drive. Can I use another computer to make a recovery CD from what is on my recovery flash drive? I want to have multiple options since I deleted the recovery partition from the computer. Also, was creating the recovery drive a one time thing? Do I never do anything with the drive unless my computer is in trouble?

The recovery partition that was pre-installed on your laptop will not work from any other boot media, as the recovery program will only look for the recovery data that's on the hard drive, recovery data that you've now deleted.

So the USB pen drive is useless for recovery purposes. You should have left the recovery partition intact on the hard drive.

So if you are supposed to leave it on the hard drive, why do they suggest that you copy the partition to a flash drive? Several sites I saw said you should copy the partition to the flash drive and then delete the partition to free up disk space. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-usb-recovery-drive
